More than half the people I spoke to have said they were
- Out of time
- Happy, excited, and can’t wait for Christmas be over.
Is this what Christmas has come to?
In my experience, stress is the number one identifiable emotion in the days leading up to the 25th. There is so much preparation involved, especially if you are having guests over for Christmas.
Reasons Americans get stressed over Christmas
Do you find any of these on your stress list?
- Buying gifts
- Buying the right gifts
- Delivering/Shipping the gifts
- Shopping for Christmas Dinner
Notice a common theme? It’s not accidental.
Lower on the stress meter
There are many other things that can lead to stress at the holidays like:
- Decorating the house/tree
- Baking Christmas cookies
- Traveling to a relative’s house
- Finding time away from kids to wrap gifts

Notice the first list has everything to do with consumerism and spending money while the second, less-stressful list had everything to do with time? Time is what we value most, yet we spend most of it stressing out about gifts and spending our hard-earned money trying to place happiness into a box.
The Spirit of Christmas flies a sleigh?
Focusing on wrapped presents and movies about how “believing in Santa Claus is what keeps Christmas alive” is the world trying to push Jesus out of the celebration. You can’t turn on one television channel without a store telling you they have what your family needs to be happy and I find it really difficult to find one movie that doesn’t teach our children to believe in a mythical character or Christmas will end. It’s ridiculous: America has morphed the true meaning of Christmas so far away from its origins that it is often referred to as Xmas.
Real Christmas Presence
Whether you are a Christian or not, this day was recognized annually in order to celebrate the most expensive rescue mission known to man. It is a reminder that Jesus came to the Earth in a human form, with all the same flaws and emotions we have, in order to pay the debt that man could not pay. That is the real Christmas presence.
Jesus’s death on the cross paid that debt, in full, and we devote 1/365th of our time to honoring that gift. I can’t tell you how much time I spent thinking about gifts for my favorite humans and wasn’t focusing on the real reason for the season.
Everyone can receive Christmas Presence
You can get yours by:
- Attending a Christmas Service
- Realizing the real gift is FREE!
- Asking for forgiveness and let him into your heart
- Getting involved with a Church
I realize the “asking for forgiveness” part is really hard. It is supposed to be – there is no other way to Heaven except through Jesus Christ. Watch the end of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and really listen to the Christmas Story as Linus van Pelt tells it.
Don’t do it because I said so. Don’t do it because it sounds like a good thing. Continue reading and learning and researching until you understand it. If you would like a Bible then contact me. I would love to send you one.
A life-changing resource
It’s hard to believe Jesus would come to Earth in the form of a man. It’s too fantastical and ridiculous. Listen to this reading of “The Man and the Birds: A Christmas Story“. It’s heartwarming, enlightening, and less than 6 minutes long. It helped me understand it, and I’ve been a believer for most of my life!
