Are you looking for a more advanced budgeting program?

While I started with the Absolute Simplest Budget That Works, we have advanced past its functionality. Now the Stewart household operates on You Need A Budget.

You Need A Budget is a flexible spending plan that builds up savings for non-monthly expenses. It also allows you to:

  • Install it on both PC or Mac (multiple installations from one purchase)
  • Use this month’s income for next month’s expenses
  • Money that isn’t spent in a category remains in the category for a later date
  • Enter transactions while still at the register using the iPhone or Android app (additional purchase, about $5)
  • Know how much you have left without having to boot up your PC

Try YNAB free for 34 days and start budgeting like a pro.

You have to include VoIP (telephone service over your Internet connection) as a great way to save money. Frequently the service includes unlimited calling for free to US and Canadian numbers, and costs as little as $20 per year. Who knew?!
The VoIP providers are falling all over themselves trying to provide additional features unheard of with conventional phone systems, from voice mail made available by email as well as recording to call blocking… it’s a beautiful thing!

[…] Steve Stuart: I have been a part-time mobile DJ for over a quarter of a century. Wedding and Christmas seasons were always busy and the rest were often slow. This was a larger part of my income when I was single – which was also the time of my life when I didn’t know how money worked. My best friend and I shared a nice apartment but after 6 months I had to move back into my parents house. I just couldn’t afford the place my friend wanted to live in so I had to bail. It definitely strained the relationship even though we are still best friends. Listen to his podcast The Absolute Simplest Budget That Works. […]
